My name is Bessie Phillips and this is the story of my precious daughter Amber. Amber is the second of our three children, she was born with Hydrocephalus, she had a shunt placed before she was even 24 hours old. The Hydrocephalus caused her to start having seizures at the young age of of 14 months old. Amber had to have multiple surgeries for shunt replacement, she had 11 revisions from 1993 to 1998. On October 29th 2010 my world was torn apart, Amber's younger brother got up and was getting ready for school. He was going to the bathroom when he realized the door was locked, he looked into his sister's room and seen that she wasn't there so he knocked on the bathroom door and said "Amber hurry up I have to go to school" Amber did not answer, so he continued to beat on the door, still with no response. Finally he broke the door knob and pushed the door open to find his sister on the floor. He ran into my and my husband's room screaming "Hurry Amber is passed out on the bathroom floor!" My husband and I took of running and tried to get a response from Amber to no avail. 911 was called and I picked Amber up and carried her into the living room and started CPR until EMS arrived. When EMS arrived they continued CPR for what seemed like an eternity, then Amber was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The doctors came into the room where they had us to wait and said "I'm so sorry", I sank to the floor screaming No not my baby!! The doctors told us that Amber had died from Sudden Cardiac Arrest, which to me made no sense because there was nothing wrong with her heart she had just seen her primary doctor on October 26th which gave her a good report. Our daughter was one of the greatest gifts GOD could have given us, we just couldn't understand why GOD would take her from us at such a young age. Amber told me the night before she passed that she was "tired" I thought she meant she was sleepy, it wasn't until months after that I realized what she was trying to tell me. Amber was taking a lot of medication for all the medical problems she had, CP,seizures,ADHD just to name a few, she was in pain everyday of her life. So, the night she said to me "Mommy I'm so tired" what she was telling me was that she was ready to go she didn't want to hurt anymore. My beautiful daughter now has her Wings and is flying with Angels. We love you and miss you Amber! Gone But Never Forgotten!
